  • JCCC’s Mike Jeffers to coach in 1,000th game

    Johnson County Community College head coach Mike Jeffers has reached many milestones in his hall of fame career. On Saturday he will add another to his long list when his team faces Iowa Western Community College in what will be his 1,000th game as a collegiate head men’s basketball coach.

    For the second time this season, Johnson County sophomore JaQuaylon Mays has been selected as the Kansas Jayhawk Conference Division II Basketball Player of the Week. He earned the week six honor over Mariquise Milton of Highland and Tyler Garrett of Labette. Mays earned his first award in week 3

    One day after earning the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA D-II men’s basketball poll for a third straight week, the top-ranked Johnson County Cavaliers (10-1) lost for the first time this season, falling 91-79 to No. 12-ranked North Central Missouri.

    The No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team ran its unbeaten streak to 9-0 with a pair of win at the JCCC Classic over the weekend. Johnson County opened the classic with a 105-69 drubbing of Washburn University JV Friday evening, and capped the weekend with an 84-56 win over Metropolitan Community College Saturday afternoon

  • Mays named the KJCCC Men’s D-II Player of the Week

    Johnson County Community College sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.7 steals and shot 57 percent from the field while leading the No. 1-ranked Lady Cavaliers to three of victories last week. That effort earned the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for week 3.

  • Men’s basketball the new No. 1 team in NJCAA D-II

    Johnson County Community College has taken over the No. 1 spot in the first regular season NJCAA Men’s Division II Basketball Poll. The Cavaliers received nine of the 10 first place votes to take over the top spot previously held by Kirkwood Community College. The Eagles dropped to No 9 after opening the season 3-2.

    Johnson County Community College head men’s basketball coach Mike Jeffers will enter his 29th campaign when the team open regular season play in early November. It will also be his last campaign. Jefferson announced today he will retire at the end of the 2019-20 season.
