OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College continued its torrid pace Thursday afternoon, sweeping Fort Scott Community College with a pair of shutouts to extend its winning streak to 14 games and improve to 27‑9 overall and a perfect 12‑0 in conference play.
The Cavaliers dominated both sides of the ball in the doubleheader, posting identical 8‑0 victories in Games 1 and 2 while allowing just four hits total across 11 innings.
Game 1: JCCC 8, Fort Scott 0 (5 innings)
JCCC used a four‑run opening inning and a relentless offensive approach to end the opener early behind standout pitching from Kyleigh Whitehurst.
Whitehurst was nearly untouchable, throwing a two‑hit shutout over five innings while facing the minimum 16 batters. She did not issue a walk and struck out three to earn the win.
The Cavaliers wasted no time offensively, scoring four runs in the first inning. Kennedy Glassford highlighted the frame with a two‑run home run, while Mariah Herrera and Alaryce Millard each added two RBIs in the contest.
Glassford finished 2‑for‑2 with two runs scored, two RBIs and two walks. Millard went 2‑for‑2 with three runs scored and a home run, while Herrera added a pair of doubles and drove in two. JCCC totaled nine hits and seven walks in the abbreviated contest.
Game 2: JCCC 8, Fort Scott 0 (6 innings)
The Cavaliers picked up right where they left off in the nightcap, breaking through with a three‑run third inning and pulling away late behind a dominant start from Elsa Carrillo.
Carrillo earned the complete‑game shutout, allowing just two hits over six innings. She struck out four, walked one and hit one batter while facing 21 hitters.
JCCC's offense erupted for 20 hits in Game 2, with every Cavalier in the starting lineup collecting at least one. Glassford continued her big day, going 2‑for‑4 with three RBIs, including a triple and a home run. Katie Kolarik added three hits and two RBIs, while Olivia Ellis drove in two.
Mariah Herrera went a perfect 4‑for‑4, and Millard finished 3‑for‑4 as JCCC applied constant pressure on the Fort Scott defense.
With the sweep, Johnson County maintained its stranglehold on conference play while continuing to build momentum down the stretch of the regular season. The Cavaliers outscored Fort Scott 16‑0 on the day and have now won 14 straight contests, showcasing a balanced attack fueled by elite pitching and deep offensive production.
