JCCC Soccer Field

In 2019, the JCCC men’s soccer team enters its 25th season and the women’s team enters its 21st competing on the new soccer field located on the west side of campus. The new field was constructed in 1995 to replace the old and smaller soccer field located on the north side of JCCC's campus. The new field was constructed so well, the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer (now Sporting KC) called JCCC its home practice field for one season while its permanent practice facility was under construction. FC Kansas City, a local women's professional soccer team, also used the facility to practice.

Since the field's inaugural season in 1995, eight players on the men's side have earned All-American. The new field has also witnessed three of the greatest postseason victories in men's soccer history. In 2000, the Cavaliers edged Cloud County, 2-1 in three overtimes, to win the Region VI title. A year later, JCCC defeated East Central in the District Championship, 3-0, and advanced to the its second NJCAA National Tournament. In that game, Jimmy Perez netted the fastest goal in the new stadium, firing a shot past the goalkeeper just 51 seconds into the contest. That team went on to finish third nationally. In 2004, JCCC defeated East Central again to win a District title and advance to nationals, winning 2-0. The Cavaliers finished the season fifth in the country.

The women's program has been nearly unbeatable at home, winning 86 percent of its matches in the program's 20-year history (155-22-8). Great defense and goaltending have been trademarks of JCCC teams. The Lady Cavaliers have recorded 211 shutouts, 104 at home. One of their largest shutouts came in first round of the Region VI playoffs in 2006. JCCC defeated Cloud County 19-0 behind a record setting scoring performance by All-American Danielle Blevins. She tied a national record with eight goals scored. She also had four assists to give her 20 points total. The Lady Cavaliers have produced many memorable victories in team history, but the greatest came in the 2009 season. Johnson County won its first District title on the field, defeating North Idaho, 3-0. The Lady Cavaliers went on to finish second in the nation.
