OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College Golden Girls recently competed for the first time this season at the IDC College Open Championship on March 8 at Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kan.

Seven teams from across the Midwest competed in the event. Participating teams represented divisions ranging from D1A and D1 to D2, NAIA, and Junior College. Johnson County was one of only two two-year colleges competing.

The Golden Girls came away with strong results, earning second-place finishes in both the Jazz and Hip-Hop divisions, placing runner-up to the Missouri State University club team. They also finished second in the Pom division, runner-up to Oklahoma Baptist University, and placed third in the Team Performance division.

This was the first of three competitions the team will participate in this season. Next up is the Region 6 Cheer and Dance Championship on Sunday, March 15, in Newton, Kansas.
