OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's soccer team and head coach Jim Schwab announced its team MVP, Cavalier and Academic award winners for the 2019-20 season.
Sophomore defender Kayla Flores (Rio Mesa HS/Oxnard, Calif.) was selected the team's most valuable player. The Cavalier award was given to freshman defender Alexa Pittman (Blue Valley West HS/Overland Park, Kan.) and the top academic performer was sophomore defender Brooklyn Armbruster (Shawnee Heights HS/Topeka, Kan.). These three were part of a squad that posted a 13-7-1 record and reached the semifinals of the Plains District Tournament.
Flores started all 21 matches at defender for the Lady Cavaliers in 2019. She earned second-team All-East Kansas Jayhawk Conference honors, while playing a key role on part of a defensive unit that allowed only 23 goals, and a goals against average of 1.08 with six shutouts. She also helped out on the offensive end with three assists. As a freshman, Flores stared all 20 matches and earned first-team all-conference honors. She keyed a defense that posted a 1.70 GAA and six shutouts. She also scored three goals with one assist for seven points.
Pittman and Armbruster were also key cogs on the Lady Cavaliers defensive pool in 2019, and both were selected as second-team All-East Jayhawk Conference performers. Armbruster earned the academic team honor with a 4.0 grade point average. She also was a second-team all-conference defender as a freshman, along with earning second-team NJCAA All-Academic honors.
