Cavaliers suffer first loss of season, fall 4-3 in overtime thriller at NJCAA Tournament

The photo shows an outdoor soccer match on a well-maintained grass field. Two players are in the foreground actively competing for possession of the ball.

The player on the right is wearing a white uniform with the word “Cavaliers” printed on the front and the number 3 visible. This player is controlling the ball with the right foot and appears to be moving forward.
The player on the left is wearing a maroon uniform with the number 13 displayed prominently. This player is positioned slightly behind and to the side, appearing to challenge for the ball.
Both players are wearing cleats and shin guards, and the soccer ball is marked with visible text and patterns.
In the background, there is a goalpost with a net, additional players in white uniforms, and a blurred building structure beyond the field. The lighting suggests a sunny day with clear skies.

WICHITA, Kan. - The No. 1-seeded Johnson County Community College women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought 4-3 overtime thriller to No. 8-seeded Jones College in the second round of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The loss — JCCC's first of the season — ends the Cavaliers' campaign at 21-1-1.

Jones standout forward Sherline King opened the scoring in the 27th minute and doubled the Bobcats' lead in the 41st. It marked the first time all season the Cavaliers trailed in a match. Jones controlled much of the first-half action, outshooting JCCC 4-1 on goal.

The Cavaliers stormed back in the second half with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead with 12 minutes remaining. Tatum Bresette put JCCC on the board in the 50th minute, then set up Iliana Garcia in the 70th to pull the Cavaliers even. Moments later, Brecken Hoy found Lily Marshall in front of the net, and Marshall headed home the go-ahead score.

In the 83rd minute, a JCCC foul just outside the box set up King's third goal of the match, sending the contest to extra time. She delivered the game-winner with 1:04 left in the first overtime, her fourth goal of the day, lifting Jones into the national semifinals and bringing Johnson County's remarkable season to a close.
