Hoy nets two as JCCC women’s soccer stays perfect at 5-0

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's soccer team controlled every phase of play in a 3-0 victory over Allen Community College Wednesday evening at the JCCC Soccer Complex. The Cavaliers improved to 5-0-0 on the season and recorded their fourth straight shutout.

JCCC was aggressive from the start, scoring twice in the first 30 minutes. The Cavaliers kept up the pressure after halftime, adding a third goal in the first 10 minutes to put the match away. They finished with a 28-8 advantage in shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal.

Sophomore midfielder Brecken Hoy paced the Cavaliers' attack with two goals, marking her first multi-goal match of the season and the fourth of her career. She opened the scoring in the 17th minute and sealed the win with her second goal in the 54th minute.

Freshman midfielder Isabel Espino extended the lead in the 30th minute with her first collegiate goal. Freshman forward Darby Howard assisted on JCCC's first two goals, her second match this season with multiple assists. Sophomore midfielder Tatam Bresette set up the final goal.

In goal, sophomore Avery Young, who on Tuesday was named KJCCC D-II Goalkeeper of the Week for the third straight time, stopped both shots she faced to earn the win. Sophomore Lena Marie-Winkler played the final 23 minutes to help secure the shutout.

Johnson County will travel to face St. Louis Community College on Saturday afternoon before returning home to host Highland Community College on Monday at 6 p.m.
