OVERLAND PARK, Kan.- The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team continued its dominant start to the season with a 5-0 road victory over St. Louis Community College Saturday evening. The Cavaliers improved to 6-0-0 while extending their streak of consecutive clean sheets to five.
Reigning NJCAA D-II and three-time KJCCC D-II Goalkeeper of the Week improved her record to 6-0-0 by stopping both shots she faced in 55 minutes of action. Sophomore Lena-Marie Winkler finished the match in goal, making one save over the final 35 minutes to complete the shutout.
Sophomore defender Ashley Chaput opened the scoring in the seventh minute off a feed from midfielder Brecken Hoy, who later added a goal of her own to make it 4-0. Freshman defender Leonie Widmann, from Freiburg, Germany, tallied her first collegiate goal in the 12th minute to extend the lead. Freshman defender Sophia Rine added her first of the year in the 36th, while sophomore midfielder Carmen Duarte capped the scoring in the 78th with her first of the season.
Sophomore forward Jill Lenherr and midfielder Lily Marshall each contributed two assists in the win.
The Cavaliers now turn their attention to a busy week of conference play, hosting Highland on Monday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Chanute, Kan., on Wednesday, Sept. 17, to face Neosho.
