OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team left little doubt about who controlled Wednesday evening's match at Neosho County. From the opening whistle, the Cavaliers dictated tempo, created chance after chance, and kept the Panthers pinned in their own half. Yet despite the one-sided play, JCCC had to settle for a modest 2-0 victory to remain unbeaten at 8-0-0.

The Cavaliers peppered the Panthers' defense, outshooting them 17-5 on goal, but couldn't quite find their finishing touch. Still, the back line stayed rock solid, recording a seventh straight shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper Avery Young  (Spring Hill  HS/Spring Hill, Kan.) — already a three-time KJCCC D-II and one-time NJCAA D-II Goalkeeper of the Week — turned aside all five Panther attempts to notch her third solo clean sheet and improve to 8-0-0.

Sophomore midfielder Brecken Hoy (Bishop Carroll Catholic HS/Wichita, Kan.), fresh off her KJCCC D-II Player of the Week honor, put JCCC on the board in the 19th minute. She calmly buried a penalty kick past keeper Evie McKane for her team-leading seventh goal of the year and 17th of her career.

The Cavaliers doubled the lead early in the second half when freshman midfielder Iliana Garcia (Shawnee Mission North HS/Shawnee, Kan.)  pounced on a rebound in the 55th minute for her first collegiate goal. Sophomore Lily Marshall (Gardner-Edgerton HS/Gardner, Kan.) picked up the assist.

JCCC will look to keep its unbeaten run going Saturday afternoon when they return home to face Pratt Community College at 2 p.m.
