OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team scored early and often, overwhelming Southeast Community College in a 15-0 blowout. The Cavaliers peppered the goalkeeper with 66 shots, including 33 on target.
Fifteen different players contributed to the scoring, with three recording multiple goals and two posting multiple assists. Freshman Isabel Espino stood out with a team-high three assists.
Sophomore midfielder Brecken Hoy opened the scoring off an assist from sophomore defender Carson Sloan, then added a second goal in the 23rd minute. Sloan picked up a second assist on JCCC's third goal, while Hoy later chipped in an assist to extend the Cavaliers' lead to 10-0 before halftime.
Freshman forward Darby Howard and sophomore midfielder Carmen Duarte each tallied two goals, with Duarte also notching an assist. Freshman midfielder Chaselyn Nichols accounted for a goal and two assists and ther multi-point performers included sophomore midfielder Tatum Bresette, freshman midfielder Jade Smallwood, sophomore forward Riggs Kuhn, and sophomore forward Jill Lenherr, each collecting a goal and an assist.
Single goals came from freshman midfielder Iliana Garcia, freshman defender Madison Smith, and sophomore forward Samantha Pond. Freshman midfielder Ella Hammonds and sophomore midfielder Lily Marshall each added an assist.
In goal, sophomore Lena-Marie Winkler picked up her first victory and complete shutout of the season, stopping the only shot she faced. She now has four combined shutouts on the year.
