OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman Kyla Etter has been selected the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association Divsion II Softball Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 22-28.
Etter finished the week 2-0 with 15 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. She scattered seven hits while allowing just two runs. She opened the season with one-hit shutout with five strikeouts against Marshalltown. In her next start she struck out 10 batters in six innings in a 10-2 win over Kirkwood.
In last year's COVID-19 shortened season, Etter finished 1-0 with an earned run average of 0.00 with 13 strikeouts in 9.0 innings pitched. In the fifth week Etter was named the KJCCC D-II Pitcher of the Week after not allowing a run or hit in an inning of relief against Jefferson, followed by a complete game win over North Iowa Area, where she struck out 12 batters.
Etter was a three-time All-State selection out of Eudora (Kan.) High School.
