OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Johnson County Community College put on a pair of offensive masterclasses on Thursday, overwhelming Fort Hays Tech Northwest in a doubleheader sweep, winning 21-0 in the opener and 26-0 in the nightcap.
The Cavaliers' bats came alive early in Game 1, scoring 12 runs in the first inning and never letting up, adding runs in each of the next three innings to complete a 21-run, five-inning run-rule victory. Every player in the lineup contributed to the offensive explosion, combining for 13 hits, 12 walks, and 21 RBI.
Makenzie Yoder led the way with a 2-for-3 performance that included a home run, two RBI, and three stolen bases. Kennedy Glassford went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored, while Reagan Neitzel drove in four and Olivia Ellis added four RBI of her own. Katie Kolarik paced the team with five RBI, and Alaryce Millard scored four runs with two hits.
The Cavaliers' pitching was equally dominant. Kyleigh Whitehurst and Glassford combined on a five-inning one-hit shutout, striking out eight and never allowing a Fort Hays Tech Northwest runner to cross the plate.
JCCC carried the momentum into Game 2, scoring 26 runs on 28 hits in another five-inning run-rule victory. The offense started with two runs in the first, exploded for nine in the second, and added 15 more in the third and fourth innings combined.
Mariah Herrera led the attack with a home run, triple, and five RBI, while Jayla Green matched that RBI total with two home runs and three hits. Millard went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI, while Reese Pattison added a home run and four RBI. Neitzel, Ellis, Glassford, and Kamden Evans all recorded multi-hit games, keeping the pressure on Fort Hays Tech Northwest throughout the contest.
In the circle, Millard and Elsa Carrillo combined on a five-inning no-hitter. Millard struck out two in three scoreless innings, and Carrillo closed it out with two hitless frames, fanning three more batters.
The Cavaliers' doubleheader sweep showcased both offensive firepower and pitching dominance, leaving Fort Hays Tech Northwest shut out in both contests.
