OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Johnson County Community College softball team continued its dominant run on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader from Highland with a pair of shutout victories to extend its winning streak to 10 games.
JCCC opened the day with a commanding 9-0 victory in six innings, then followed with a 5-0 win in the nightcap at Overland Park.
In game one, the Cavaliers wasted no time setting the tone, plating three runs in the first inning and never looking back. JCCC finished with 13 hits in the contest, highlighted by multi-hit efforts from Makenzie Yoder, Katie Kolarik and Katie Courter. Kolarik powered the offense with a home run and two RBI, while Kennedy Glassford added a three-run homer to break the game open.
In the circle, Kyleigh Whitehurst was nearly untouchable, tossing a complete-game three-hit shutout. She struck out six and did not issue a walk, facing just 21 batters in the six-inning run-rule victory.
The Cavaliers carried that momentum into game two, where they again relied on dominant pitching and timely hitting to secure the sweep.
After two scoreless innings, JCCC broke through with a three-run third inning, highlighted by Glassford's second home run of the day — a three-run blast that gave the Cavaliers all the offense they would need. They added two more runs in the fourth to build a 5-0 cushion.
Glassford finished game two with four RBI, while Reese Pattison led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance. Yoder, Kolarik and Alaryce Millard also contributed key hits as JCCC totaled 10 hits in the game.
Elsa Carrillo was dominant in the circle in the nightcap, firing a two-hit shutout over seven innings. She struck out nine and walked just one, consistently keeping Highland off balance to preserve the win.
Across the doubleheader, JCCC outscored Highland 14-0 while allowing just five total hits, showcasing a balanced effort of explosive offense and elite pitching.
With the sweep, the Cavaliers improve their winning streak to 10 consecutive games as they continue to build momentum heading deeper into conference play.
