OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Johnson County Community College's dominance in last week's home doubleheader sweep of Fort Scott Community College was recognized by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II, as sophomores Kennedy Glassford and freshman Kyleigh Whitehurst earned Week 10 Player and Pitcher of the Week honors.
For Glassford, the award marks her fourth Player of the Week selection this season, continuing an impressive run as one of the conference's most consistent offensive forces. Whitehurst, meanwhile, collected her third Pitcher of the Week honor, further solidifying her role as the Cavaliers' ace in the circle.
Glassford powered JCCC's offense in the sweep, compiling a remarkable .667/.714/1.167 slash line. She went 4-for-6 at the plate, delivering a double, a triple, and two home runs while drawing two walks. She also scored four runs and drove in five, accounting for a significant portion of the Cavaliers' production in back-to-back 8-0 victories.
In the circle, Whitehurst was equally dominant. The freshman right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two singles over five innings while striking out three. She faced minimal trouble throughout the outing, keeping Fort Scott off balance and preserving the Cavaliers' commanding lead. The win improved her record to an impressive 12-1 on the season.
