OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Johnson County Community College softball team saw its 16-game winning streak come to an end but responded with a strong bounce-back effort to earn a split of a conference doubleheader at Neosho County on Thursday in Chanute, Kansas.

JCCC dropped a tightly contested opener, 2-1, before erupting offensively in a 6-3 victory in game two. The Cavaliers now stand at 30-10 overall and 15-1 in conference play, maintaining a three-game lead over Kansas City Kansas with just four games remaining in the regular season.

The Cavaliers were limited offensively in the opener despite collecting seven hits, as Neosho County capitalized on a two-run fourth inning to snap JCCC's 16-game win streak.

Kennedy Glassford provided the lone run for Johnson County with a solo home run, while Katie Kolarik led the way with a pair of hits. Reagan Neitzel added a double as part of the Cavaliers' seven-hit effort.

In the circle, Kyleigh Whitehurst turned in a solid performance, allowing just three hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings while striking out four. However, Neosho County's timely hitting proved to be the difference, as the Cavaliers stranded multiple opportunities and couldn't find the equalizer late.⏰

JCCC wasted little time responding in the second game, using a balanced offensive attack and power at the plate to secure the split.

The Cavaliers jumped out early and never trailed, highlighted by three home runs in the contest. Reese Pattison powered the offense with two home runs and two RBI, while Kolarik added a double and home run as part of a three-RBI performance. Alaryce Millard also drove in a run, and Olivia Ellis and Katie Courter each recorded multi-hit games.

JCCC finished with 11 hits in the game and added three insurance runs in the seventh inning to put the game away.

In the circle, Elsa Carrillo earned the start, allowing two unearned runs over four innings. Whitehurst returned in relief to close out the final three innings, surrendering just one run while striking out three to secure the win.

Despite the setback in game one, the Cavaliers remain firmly in control of the conference race, holding a three-game cushion with four games left to play all at home. JCCC will look to close out the regular season strong as it eyes a conference title and postseason momentum.
