Kennedy Glassford waits for a pitch to hit.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College softball split its season series with Allen County Community College on Saturday at JCCC, a result that secured the Cavaliers at least a share of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II championship.

JCCC opened the doubleheader with a dramatic walk-off win before Allen claimed the nightcap to earn the split.

The Cavaliers' victory in the opener was one for the record books, as Kennedy Glassford delivered a historic performance. Glassford hit for the cycle and sealed the win in unforgettable fashion, blasting a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With the game tied and a runner aboard, Glassford stepped to the plate and ended it with one swing, sending the ball over the fence and her teammates pouring out of the dugout. The homer completed the cycle, as she had already recorded a single, double and triple earlier in the game. Glassford finished the opener with four hits and three RBIs to lead the Cavaliers.

Makenzie Yoder also collected four hits and two RBI, Mariah Herrera went 3-of-4 and Katie Courter drove in two runs.

JCCC stayed locked in throughout the opener, answering Allen's scoring threats and setting the stage for the late-inning heroics that secured both the win and at least a tie atop the conference standings.

Allen responded in the second game, using timely offense to take the finale and prevent a sweep.

Courter doubled to center field to tie the game at two in the bottom of the second, then Katie Kolarik belted a three-run homer to center field in the bottom of the third to give the Cavaliers a 5-2 lead. Allen responded with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to down JCCC 6-5.

The loss did little to dampen the day for the Cavaliers, as the split was enough to guarantee a share of the KJCCC Division II crown.
