OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman first baseman Kaylin Watkins and freshman pitcher Kyla Etter has been selected the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for week 11.
Watkins batted .526 (10-for-19) with three doubles, three home runs, six runs scored and 12 driven in last week to help the Lady Cavaliers go 4-2 on the week. Watkins has been one of the team's top hitters in 2021. She is batting .452 overall (47-for-104), second-best on the team, and she leads JCCC with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 45 driven in. She is second in runs scored with 34.
Etter earned two victories last week, including a complete game win over No. 12 Labette. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out 12 batters. Her ERA for the week was 1.27. Etter is current ranked second in conference with an ERA of 2.61, and is fifth with 94 strikeouts. This the second time this season Etter has been selected. She also was a selection one week last year.
Etter has been the ace of the staff in this season. She currently is 11-4 with 94 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.61, which ranks second in the conference. Her 94 strikeouts are seventh-best.
