Griffel selected KJCCC volleyball defensive player of the week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –  The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced its week two top players in division II volleyball action last week, and Johnson County Community College Makenzie Griffel was named the defensive player of the week.  Iva Halacheva of Cowley was selected the offensive player of the week, and the setter of the week went to Gracie Story of Cowley. 

The sophomore defensive specialist from Blue Springs, Mo., led the No. 11-ranked Lady Cavaliers with 45 digs in two victories last week. She tallied 23 digs in a five-set win over No. 12 Highland, and followed with 22 digs in a four-set win over Metropolitan. She also led JCCC with six service aces on the weekend. 

Last season Griffel finished third on the team with 284 digs and a 2.34 digs-per-set average. She also finished second with 45 aces, which tied for 12th in the KJCCC.
