OVERLND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County volleyball program capped off its 2021 season with two members earning NJCAA D-II All-American. Sophomore libero Maddie Steiner was named first-team All-America, and freshman middle hitter Carley Spachman was named second-team All-America. These two athletes helped the Lady Cavaliers to a record of 32-7 and a third-place finish at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.
Steiner led the team and ranked third in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference with 663 digs. Her 5.30 digs-per-set average ranked second in the conference and those totals ranked her 15th and 27 respectively in the NJCAA. She produced 35 matches with 10 or more digs, 11 with 20+ digs and four with 30+digs, highlighted by back-to-back 38-dig matches in wins over No. 4 Illinois Central and No. 11 Grand Rapids early in the season. Steiner also had 43 service aces on the season.
Steiner also earned first-team D-II All-KJCCC and All-Region 6/Plains District A honors. Following the sixth week of the season, she was named the conference and national Defensive Player of the Week. Steiner closed out her career with 921 digs which ranks her ninth all-time at JCCC.
Spachman finished the season third on the team in kills with 281, and fourth with kills-per-set average of 2.16. She ranked second on the team, fifth in the conference and 39th in the NJCAA with a hitting percentage of .302. She also ranked third on the team and 11th in the conference with 49 aces and was second on the team and fourth in the conference with 113 blocks. Spachman produced 11 matches with 10 or kills. In the national tournament she tallied 29 kills over the four matches, including a 12-kill effort in a 3-2 win over No. 5 Sauk Valley in the quarterfinals.
Spachman also earned second-team D-II All-KJCCC and first-team All-Region 6/Plains District A honors.
