McBurney, Smith moving on to next level

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County volleyball players Ryleigh McBurney and Alyssa Smith recently signed letters-of-intent to extend their playing careers at next level.  McBurney will attend William Wood University and Smith is headed to the University of Arkansas at Monticello. 

Both were key member of JCCC's volleyball program that posted a record of 59-9 over their two seasons, won a national championship in 2020 and finished third nationally in 2021. 

McBurney earned All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District her freshman and sophomore seasons. She finished her career with 1,533 assists which has her ranked 11th all-time in program history. She also ranks 19th all-time with 74 career service aces. She registered double figures in assists in 64 of 68 matches over her career. 

Smith earned All-Kansas Jayahwk D-II Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District honors as a sophomore. She finished her career with 398 kills, 641 digs and 84 aces. She ranks 21st all-time in career digs and her 84 aces rank 13th all-time.  She registered double figures in digs in 37 matches over the two seasons.
