OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County volleyball program was well-represent on the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference D-II and Plains District teams with five selections, along with Jennifer Ei being selected the Coach of the Year for the third time in her career.
Sophomore outside hitter Jadyn Troutman, sophomore libero Addyson Mock and sophomore setter Lauren McClure were all tabbed first-team all-conference and all-district. Sophomore outside hitter Taylor McCarthy earned first-team all-conference and second-team all-district and freshman outside/middle hitter Sophia Ewy was named honorable mention on both teams. Troutman was also an all-conference and all-district selection last year.
Troutman leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference with 364 kills this season, an average of 3.22 per set. That total currently ranks her 18th on JCCC 's season chart. She also ranks second in conference and 11th in the NJCC with a .353 kill percentage. She leads the conference in total blocks with 154, which also ranks sixth in the NJCAA. She has reached double figures for kills in a match 20 times this season, with a high of 15 against both Panola and Colby. During the regular season Troutman was honored as the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week three times, earing the selection in week one, five and seven. For her career she has tallied 677 kills, 10th all-time at JCCC, 261 blocks and 237 block assists, 15th and 10th respectively all-time.
Mock leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 605 total digs. That total ranks her eighth on JCCC's season chart. She also ranks fourth in KJCCC D-II with a digs-per-set average of 4.96. Mock has topped double digits in digs this season in 32 matches, including 11 with 20 or more. Like Troutman, Mock was also a three-time KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, earning top defensive honors in weeks four, seven and 10. Mock is also moving up JCCC's career chart in digs. She currently stands 10th all-time with 840.
McClure has established herself as JCCC's top go-to setter this season. In the first week of this campaign she was chose the KJCCC D-II Setter of the Week. She currently ranks sixth in the conference in assists with 760 and seventh in assists-per-set at 6.67. McClure has produced 34 matches with 10-plus assists, 20 with 20 or more and four of 30-plus. She also leads the team with 47 service aces. For her career she has tallied 1322 assists, 15th most in team history. She also has 62 matches of 10 or more assists.
McCarthy joined the program this fall after playing her freshman season at Regis University in Denver, and her addition has been key to the team's success. She had reached double figures in kills in 17 matches of the 27 matches she played before suffering a foot injury that has kept her out of the lineup since early October. However, she is expected to be back on the court when the Cavaliers take the court at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament November 17-19. Even with her missing playing time, McCarthy ranks second on the team and 12th in the conference with 269 kills. Her kills-per-set average of 3.20 ranks seventh in the conference and her .301 kill percentage ranks sixth and 39th in the NJCAA. In the fourth week this season, McCarthy was selected as the KJCCC D-II Offensive Player of the Week.
The only freshman to earn postseason honors this year, Ewy has tallied 141 kills, a 1.22 kills-per-set average, 124 digs and 83 blocks. Her 83 blocks are second on the squad and eighth-best in the conference. She began her collegiate career with a season-best 10 kills in a win over Waubonsee and a day later in a win over No. 1 ranked Parkland, Ewy was credited with nine blocks, the second-best effort by the team this season.
