OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 1 seed Johnson County Community College volleyball team advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament semifinals yesterday at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is the third straight year head coach Jennifer Ei has led her team to the semifinals, and 10th time in program history.
The Lady Cavaliers easily handled 16-seed Montgomery, winning 25-12, 25-8 and 25-11, and followed with another sweep over 9-seed Grand Rapids 25-12, 25-12, 25-16.
Johnson County will face 5-seed Richard Bland in the semifinals Friday at 6:30 p.m. The other semifinal match is No. 2-seed Parkland against 6-seed Scottsdale, who upset 3-seed Cowley in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore outside hitter Jadyn Troutman, sophomore outside hitter Taylor McCarthy and freshman right-side hitter Kylee Harris were dominant at the net. Troutman had a team-high 11 kills and a kill percentage of .625. McCarthy, who made her first appearance in a match since suffering a foot injury in early October, finished 10 kills and kill percentage of .667, and Harris added eight kills and hit a team-best .778. Overall the JCCC hitters had a kill percentage of .481
Sophomore setter Lauren McClure led the offense with 21 assists and sophomore Addyson Mock contributed seven digs.
JCCC's hitters followed with another impressive effort in the sweep over Grand Rapids, posting a team kill percentage of .500. Troutman and McCarthy each tallied 11 kills, Harris finished with seven and freshman Camilla Ossolo had five with a kill percentage of .833.
McClure dished out 25 assists and Mock registered 11 digs.
