JCCC Volleyball Sweeps Week One Conference Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team made a statement to open the 2025 season, sweeping all three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II weekly awards. Freshman outside/right-side hitter Ava Esser, freshman setter Campbell Chabot, and sophomore libero Carlie Martin each earned recognition for their standout performances.

Ava Esser – KJCCC DII Player of the Week
Esser wasted no time making her mark in her collegiate debut, powering the Cavaliers' offense with 71 kills over six matches at the season-opening tournament in Rockford, Ill. She averaged 3.38 kills per set while hitting .273, helping JCCC to a 4-2 record against nationally ranked opponents. Esser tallied double-digit kills in four matches, highlighted by 16 in a win over No. 12 Grand Rapids and 17 against No. 6 Gulf Coast State. She currently leads the KJCCC and ranks fourth in NJCAA Division II in total kills.

Campbell Chabot – KJCCC DII Setter of the Week
Running the Cavaliers' offense with composure and consistency, Chabot racked up 210 assists, averaging 10.0 per set in her debut weekend. She recorded at least 20 assists in all six matches, including 46 against No. 6 Gulf Coast State and 44 in a five-set win over No. 12 Grand Rapids. Chabot also notched 34 assists against Danville, 32 against Waubonsee, and 27 each versus No. 10 Pensacola State and Southeastern. She leads both the KJCCC and NJCAA Division II in total assists.

Carlie Martin – KJCCC DII Defensive Player of the Week
The Cavaliers' defensive anchor, Martin, continued her strong play from last season by posting double-digit digs in every match of the opening tournament. She finished with 93 total digs (4.43 per set), leading the conference and ranking tied for third nationally. Martin's weekend included 18 digs in wins over Waubonsee and No. 12 Grand Rapids, 13 against No. 10 Pensacola State, a tournament-best 21 against No. 6 Gulf Coast State, 13 against Southeastern, and 10 in a sweep of Danville Area.
