OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Backed by a dominant offensive performance, the No. 5-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team made quick work of Labette Community College Wednesday night, rolling to a 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 sweep. The victory, which lasted just over an hour, improved the Cavaliers to 2-0 in Kansas Jayhawk D-II play and 10-3 overall. JCCC now leads the all-time series with the Cardinals 41-1.

The Cavaliers hit an impressive .372 as a team, led by two-time KJCCC D-II Player of the Week Ava Esser. The freshman outside hitter from Topeka, Kan., recorded 13 kills while swinging at a .360 clip.

JCCC showcased its depth at the net as four other players tallied six kills apiece: freshman Adalyn Hemphill (.600), sophomore Brooke Boyer (.500), sophomore Avery Ringgenberg (.417) and freshman Lily Waters (.385). Ringgenberg also produced a team-high five blocks to bring her season total to 35, which leads the team and ranks seventh in the conference.

Freshman setter Campbell Chabot, a three-time KJCCC D-II Setter of the Week, efficiently directed the offense with 33 assists. On the defensive side, freshman libero Kennedie Witthaus reached double figures in digs for the fourth time this season, finishing with a team-best 10. Three-time KJCCC D-II Defensive Player of the Week Carlie Martin added nine.

With the sweep behind them, the Cavaliers now shift their focus to a marquee matchup with two-time defending national champion Cowley College. The Tigers defeated JCCC in four sets in last year's NJCAA Division II national championship match, claiming their fourth national title.
