OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College volleyball team put together a strong showing at its annual JCCC Challenge, winning three matches over the weekend to improve to 13-4 on the season.
The Cavaliers opened Friday night with a 3-1 victory over No. 25 Central Community College (25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19). JCCC recorded 64 kills in the match, led by freshman outside/right-side hitter Ava Esser, who posted a double-double with 17 kills and a season-high 20 digs. Sophomore middle/right-side hitter Avery Ringgenberg and freshman middle/right-side hitter Lauren Roediger each tallied 13 kills, with Ringgenberg hitting at a team-best .527.
Defensively, four more Cavaliers reached double figures in digs. Sophomore libero Carlie Martin and sophomore outside hitter Brooke Boyer each tallied 16, while freshman Lily Waters had 10 digs to go with seven kills, and freshman setter Campbell Chabot collected 11 digs and a season-high 57 assists. Chabot's performance tied for the eighth-best single-match assist total in program history.
On Saturday morning, JCCC earned another 3-1 win, this time over Lincoln Land (25-10, 25-17, 18-25, 25-9). Chabot dished out 40 assists to go with 10 digs, while Ringgenberg led the attack with 14 kills. Esser added nine kills, and Martin anchored the defense with 14 digs.
The Cavaliers closed the weekend with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Northeast (25-11, 25-13, 25-12). JCCC hit an impressive .471 as a team, led by Esser's 11 kills and .588 attack percentage. Roediger added nine kills on a .667 hitting mark. Chabot recorded her third straight double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs, while Martin posted a team-high 12 digs.
Johnson County returns to KJCCC play Wednesday, traveling to Iola, Kan., to take on Allen Community College.
