OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After suffering a five-set upset loss at Allen Community College last Wednesday and sliding four spots to No. 9 in the national poll, the Johnson County Community College volleyball team bounced back in dominant fashion with a 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-19, 25-22) over Coffeyville on Thursday night.
Freshman Ava Esser, the Cavaliers' top hitter this season, powered the attack with 14 kills on a .458 hitting percentage. She also tallied 11 digs for her third double-double of the season and added a team- and season-high seven blocks.
Sophomore Avery Ringgenberg followed with nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage and six blocks, while freshman Lauren Roediger chipped in eight kills and four blocks. Sophomore Brooke Boyer added six kills and 10 digs.
Running the offense, freshman setter Campbell Chabot dished out 36 assists—her fifth straight match with 30 or more and 15th of the season. She also served a season-high five aces and picked up eight digs.
On the defensive end, sophomore libero Carlie Martin collected 12 digs, marking her 18th double-digit effort in 19 matches this year.
With the win, Johnson County improves to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in KJCCC play. The Cavaliers return to action Friday, Oct. 3, for a key conference showdown at Highland Community College (23-4/3-2), winners of nine of their last 10 matches.
