OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After helping lead No. 9-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team to a pair of conference wins last week, freshmen Ava Esser and Campbell Chabot were named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Offensive Player and Setter of the Week for week seven. This is Essar's third time to earn the Offensive award, and Chabot has claimed the Setter honor five of the seven weeks.
Esser, an outside/right-side hitter, recorded back-to-back double-doubles in kills and digs to help power the Cavaliers to a pair of conference sweeps last week. Over the two victories Esser hit .455 with 24 kills, averaging 4.17 per set, along with 21 digs and 11 blocks. In a 3-0 home victory against Coffeyville, Esser finished with 14 kills, a .458 kill percentage and 11 digs. She nearly posted a triple-double finishing with seven blocks. On Friday night in another 3-0 home win over Highland, Esser's line was 11 kills, .450 kill percentage, 10 digs and four blocks. Esser currently ranks fourth in the conference with 261 total kills, second in kills per set at 3.90 and fifth in kill percentage at .304.
Chabot fueled the Cavaliers' attack last week, dishing out 71 assists , an average of11.83 per set, to help lead JCCCC to a pair of conference sweeps. In a 3-0 win over Coffeyville last Wednesday, Chabot recorded 36 assists, eight dogs and five aces. Two days later in a sweep over Highland, she posed 35 assists and seven digs. Chabot currently leads the conference 701 total assists.
