OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County softball team had a great outing on Friday with a double headers sweep over Cloud County, winning 13-0 and 12-4 to improve to 8-6 on the season.
In the opener, left fielder Emma Martin was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI. All three hits and four RBI came in innings two through four.
In the bottom of the second. Martin's triple scored Emma Stanwix and Katie Enneking to put the Lady Cavaliers up 2-0.
In the third and fourth innings, Martin ripped doubles plating Enneking in the third and Nia Thomas in the fourth. Also in the fourth, Emma Baldwin had a two-run double that scored Martin and Natalie Bruce.
Morgan Lindsay notched her first victory of the season with a complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits and struck out two over five innings.
In the second game, Aubrey Peck got the scoring going for JCCC with an RBI single. The Lady Cavaliers added three more in the third off a sacrifice fly from Harlee Walker, and a two-run double from Macey Nigh.
Cloud County cut into JCCC' 5-0 lead in with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Baldwin drove in two runs with a single and Peck added a RBI single to put JCCC up 8-3.
An inning later, pinch hitter Aubrey Griffith belted a 3-run home to right-center field, scoring Kaylin Watkins, Stanwix and Griffith to close out the game 12-3.
AJ Elleman went the distance to pick up her third win of the season. She allowed four runs, two earned, with five strikeouts.
Johnson County travels to Parson on Sunday for a two-game tilt with Labette, then return home to hos Neosho County on Tuesday.
