OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County softball team came away with a sweep over Coffeyville Saturday afternoon, winning 10-0 and 12-4. The Lady Cavaliers now stand 21-11 overall, and 17-5 in conference play with eight game remaining to play.
In the opener, Macey Nigh hit two home runs, and Kaylin Watkins hit a homer and double to power the Lady Cavaliers offense. Each drove in three runs. Emma Stanwix also drove in two runs.
Kyla Etter improved to 9-4 after hurling a two-hit shutout. She also struck out four batters over the five innings.
In the second game, Watkins collected another home run and double to drive in two runs. Watkins leads the team in both home runs and doubles with 10 and eight respectively.
Emma Baldwin ripped two doubles to drive in three runners and Aubrey Griffith hit a solo shot, her fifth of the season.
Watkins also picked up the win in the circle. She gave up four runs, three earned, off five hits while strikeout out five batters.
Etter pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit or run, with four strikeouts, to pick up her second save of the season.
Johnson County will host St. Louis Community College on Tuesday, April 27, in their final non-conference matchup for the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
