OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County softball team, ranked eighth in country, split a double header with No. 17 Iowa Central on Saturday afternoon at the JCCC Softball Complex. Iowa Central took the first game 8-3, and the Cavaliers evened the series with a 6-2 win in the second game.
In the loss, Johnson County out hit the Tritons 10-to-9, but JCCC left nine runners on base compared to none for Iowa Central.
Iowa Central got on the board first plating three in the top of the third innings. JCCC scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to one, but the Tritons scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh to put the game away.
Katie Enneking drove in two runs, and Aubrey Peck provided the other RBI.
Peck was the top run producer in the victory with three RBI. She had a double, a walk and scored twice.
Kayla Vest had two hits and an RBI. Kaylin Watkins belted an RBI double and Emma Stanwix had an RBI single.
AJ Ellman picked up a complete-game victory. She allowed seven hits, two earned runs and struck out four. She is now 2-0 on the season.
Johnson County travels to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend to compete in the Crowder Bash. They open against Crowder on Friday, March 12 at noon, and followed with games against Seminole State and Three Rivers. On Saturday they take on Southeastern and State Fair. JCCC returns home to host Allen on Thursday, March 18 at 1 and 3 p.m.
