OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball completed a four-game sweep over Southwestern Tuesday afternoon with wins of 10-1 and 11-1. The Cavaliers outscored the Southwestern 50-to-10 over the four games.
In JCCC's first win Tuesday, outfielders Quinton Hall and Jake Grauberger, and catcher Nate Stevens were responsible for driving in all 10 runs. All three hit a home run in the game.
Hall, who was a first-team All-American by Baseball Blog last season, hit a double along with a home run and drove in four runners. He also scored three times.
Grauberger also had a double and homer, scored three times and drove in three, and Stevens had three RBI.
On the hill, left-hander Jay Long got the start and victory. He allowed one run off four hits and struck out four over the first three innings. Long was named honorable mention All-American by Baseball Blog last season.
Sophomore right-hander Paul Rector pitched three innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits, a walk and struck out four.
Freshman right-hander Grant Garza struck out the side in the final inning.
In the final game, eight different Cavaliers drove in at least one run. Hall, catcher Noah Cook and designate hitter Wyatt Morgan each drove in two runs. Hall's two hits were a double and homer, and Cook ripped a triple.
Single RBI were recorded by outfielder Jackson Galloway, second baseman Brevon Lee, first baseman Noah Steele, infielder Brayden Sites and outfielder Bryce Mitchell.
Right-hander Mikal Ashley got the start and was dominant in his four innings of work. He allowed just one run while striking out 10 batters.
Left-hander Max Chapman and right-hander Jack Thornhill did not allow a hit over the final three innings. Chapman struck out two over two innings, and Thornhill struck out two of the three batters he faced in the final inning.
The Cavaliers return to the diamond Friday, February 26 for the first two games of a three-game series against Southeast Community College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
