WICHITA, Kan. — Johnson County Community College delivered a complete performance Saturday afternoon at Eck Stadium, rolling to a 9–1 seven-inning run-rule victory over Cowley County to advance to the championship round.
The Cavaliers improved to 60-3 on the season and now move on to face Kansas City Kansas Saturday evening, needing a win over the Blue Devils to force a decisive winner-take-all finale on Sunday.
JCCC set the tone early and never let up.
The Cavaliers jumped on Cowley starter Grady Hoke in the bottom of the first, plating three runs to seize immediate control. That early cushion proved more than enough for freshman right-hander Lance Alexander, who turned in a dominant complete-game effort in the shortened contest.
Alexander scattered just two hits over seven innings, allowing one run while striking out six and walking only one in a commanding start.
With the pitching staff in control, the JCCC offense continued to apply steady pressure throughout the afternoon.
After the three-run first, the Cavaliers added two more in the fourth, another in the fifth, and put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth inning to trigger the run rule. JCCC finished with 11 hits and nine RBIs in the victory.
Several Cavaliers delivered standout performances at the plate:
Boston Bruce provided the biggest blow, launching a home run and driving in five runs in a 2-for-4 day. Brayden Giesler sparked the offense from the top of the order, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Ryan Bradford added two runs and an RBI, while Lukas Wilson, Logan Groh, and Colin Coonradt each contributed key RBIs in the balanced attack.
Cowley struggled to generate offense against Alexander all afternoon. The Tigers managed just two hits and struck out six times, with their lone run coming on an RBI from Easton Green.
Defensively, JCCC played a clean game without an error, while Cowley committed two miscues that helped extend innings.
The decisive win keeps the Cavaliers surging through postseason play and sets up a high-stakes showdown later Saturday.
JCCC will take on Kansas City Kansas in the championship game, needing a victory to force a winner-take-all rematch on Sunday afternoon. With the Cavaliers riding strong pitching and timely hitting, they will look to carry that momentum into the evening matchup with a championship berth hanging in the balance.
