OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team remained perfect on the season after completing a four-game series sweep over Fort Scott, Saturday afternoon. JCCC won the third game of the series 9-6, then completed the sweep with a 16-6 triumph, upping their season record to 19-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
In Friday's 11-2 win, freshman second baseman Brevon Lee had four hits, including a double and home run, and drove in five runs. A day later, Lee had three hits, including a double and homer, and drove in three of three of the Cavaliers nine runs.
Centerfielder Jackson Galloway and designated hitter Nick Iannantone were also productive at the plate. Galloway had a single and home run and two RBI, and Iannantone collected a single and double and drove in two runs.
Right-hander Grant Garza pitched 3.2 innings in relief and picked up his first victory of the season. He allowed one unearned run off two hits and struck out six batters.
Right-hander Danny Trehey struck out three of the four batters he faced in the seventh to pick up his third save.
In the final game, Lee again had three hits and drove in a run, and Iannantone was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, but the big hitters was Alex Austin. The 6-3 first baseman from Collinsville, Olka., had two hits, including a home run, to drive in five runs in the game, a new season-high.
Right-hander Rene Ramos improved to 4-0 despite allowing six runs off eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched. He did strikeout six batters.
Right-hander Paul Rector tossed the final 3.1 innings and was nearly perfect. He allowed just one walk and struck out three batters.
The Cavaliers next six games are out of conference facing Metropolitan Community College March 23, Baker University JV March 25 and 27, and State Fair Community College March 30. The return to conference play on Thursday, April 2 when they host Kansas City Kansas Community College.
