No. 5 Cavaliers suffers first loss of the season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 5-ranked Johnson County baseball team saw it's perfect season come to an end in a 3-2 loss to cross-town conference rival Kansas City Kansas on Thursday in the second game of double header at the JCCC Baseball Complex. 

The Cavaliers improved to 25-0 with a 5-1 win over the Blue Devils in the first game of the twin bill, but KCKCC left-hander Logan Barnard held the JCCC lineup to just two runs and struck out five to earn a nine inning complete game victory.

Third baseman Wyatt Morgan drove in a run and shortstop Isaiah Cohens belted a solo home run to account for the Cavaliers two runs.  They did get the tying run to third base with two out on a triple by catcher Noah Cook, but Barnard was able to get the final out. 

In the opener, Cook and Jackson Galloway each drove in two runs with a double and Nick Iannantone had an RBI to up his team-leading total to 31 for the season. 

Right-hander Matt Ronnebaum scattered six hits, allowed one run and struck out nine batter to improve to 6-0 on the season. Right-hand closer Danny Trehey picked up his league-leading six save striking out three of the four batters he faced in the top of the seventh. 

Johnson County and Kansas City Kansas will go at it again with two games scheduled at Blue Devils home field on Saturday, April 3rd.
