OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Nine members of the Johnson County Community College baseball team recently were selected as All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East Division performers for 2021. Freshman designated hitter Nick Iannantone, freshman lefthanded starting pitcher Max Chapman and freshmen left-handed relief pitcher CC Crain were named to the first-team. Freshman third baseman Wyatt Morgan and freshman outfielder Jake Grauberger were second-team selections, and freshmen outfielders Quinton Hall and Jackson Galloway and freshmen starting pitchers, right-hander Matt Ronnebaum and left-hander Jay Long, were name honorable mention.
These nine players helped the Cavaliers to a 43-10 mark, a runner-up finish in the conference and final No. 16 national ranking under first-year head coach Eric Horner. The season also saw the team win its first 25 games of the year, setting a new team record for longest win streak.
Iannantone led the conference and ranked fourth in the NJCAA with a batting average of .474. His .474 average also ranks as the seventh-best in team history. He was 81-for-171 with 18 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 62 runs scored and 56 driven in. Iannantone led the team in hits, doubles, and tied for the lead in RBI. He also led the team with 29 multiple-hit games and tied for second with 16 multiple-RBI games. His 29 multi-hit games tie for the third most in a season at JCCC. He ranked fourth in the conference in hits, eighth in doubles and fourth in on-base percentage (.540). In a 36-4 win over Rockhurst, Iannaontone tied his personal high and a team record with five hits, including three doubles, five runs and seven RBI. His three doubles tied a team single-game record, and his seven RBI were one shy of the game record.
Chapman made 13 appearances on the hill, seven as a starter. He finished 4-2 with a save, and had a team-high 72 strikeouts in 52.2 innings pitched. His 72 strikeouts tied for ninth in the conference. Chapman led the starting staff at JCCC with an earned run average of .273, and he held opposing hitters to an average of .229.
Crain made 17 appearances, second-most on the staff, all in relief. He logged 32.1 innings of work, and finished 3-1, with four saves, 50 strikeouts and earned run average of 1.67. His four saves tie for 13th on the JCCC season chart.
Morgan batted .429 (54-for-123) with four doubles, four triples, 40 runs scored and 48 driven in. He produced 16 multiple-hit games and 12 multiple-RBI games. His .438 average ranked fourth in the conference, and is the 18th-best season average in team history. Morgan's 10 homers tied for third on the team. In a blowout win over Rockhurst, Morgan went 5-for-6 with a triple, two home runs, six runs scored and six RBI. His five hits tie a single-game team record, and is six runs set a new game record.
Grauberger batted .423 (69-for-163) with 15 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, a team-high 64 runs scored and 52 driven in. He produced 26 multiple-hit games and 14 multiple-RBI games. His 26 multi-hit games were second on the team and tied for eighth-most in team history, and his 14 multi-RBI games tie for 21st.
Hall batted .407 (59-for-145) with 16 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 62 runs scored and 54 driven in. He produced 18 multiple-hit games and 13 multiple-RBI games.
Galloway batted .420 (73-for-174) with 17 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 58 runs scored and 64 driven in. He produced 25 multiple-hit games and a team-best 18 multiple-RBI games. His 25 multi-hit game tie for 11th most in team history and his 18 multi-RBI games tie for 10th all-time. Galloway opened the season with a 28-game hitting streak, the second longest in team history and just two game shy of the record. He batted .450 over the streak (45-for-100) with 14 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 39 runs and 34 RBI.
Ronnebaum, who was also voted team MVP and the JCCC Male Athlete of the Year, made 13 appearances on the hill, all starts. He finished 7-2 on the season with one complete game, and tied for second on the staff with 66 strikeouts. He logged team high 54.0 innings and finished with an earned run average of 5.17. Ronnebaum ranked 10th in the conference with a 11.00 strikeout-per-9 inning ratio, and his 66 strikeouts tied for 14th. His seven win tied for sixth in the conference
Long made 13 appearances, 10 in the starting rotation. He finished 7-1 with 66 strikeouts in 52.0 innings pitched and an earned run average of 4.33. His seven wins tied for the team lead, and his 66 strikeouts tied for second. Long held hitters to a .190 batting average, best among the starters.
