Nine JCCC baseball players earn all-conference recognition

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced its baseball conference and region performers for the 2022 season, and nine members from Johnson County Community College were selected. Earning first-team accolades were freshman first baseman Colin Brueggemann, sophomore second baseman Blake Mozley, sophomore designated hitter Nick Iannantone and sophomore left-handed pitcher Max Chapman. Those four were also named second-team All-Region 6/Plains District. Iannantone, Chapman and Hall were also all-conference in 2021.

Sophomore catcher Jaxson Wentworth, freshman outfielder Cooper Combs and freshman right-handed pitcher Trent Martin earned second-team honors. Honorable mention honors went to sophomore right-hander Grant Garza and sophomore outfielder Quinton Hall. 

Brueggemann, who earlier this month was voted his team's MVP and selected the JCCC Male Athlete of the Year, batted .372 (74-for-199) with 15 doubles, a triple, 21 home runs, 50 runs scored and drove in 74 runs. He led the team, ranked second in the conference, and tied for seventh in the NJCAA in home runs. His 21 home runs are the third most recorded in a season in team history. Brueggemann led the team, ranked third in the conference, and tied for 19th in the NJCAA in RBI. His 74 RBI rank as the sixth best season at JCCC. He also led the team in multiple-RBI games with 20 which ties for sixth on the season, and was second on the team in multiple-hit games with 23. His 37 total extra base hits tie for sixth at JCCC. Earlier in the season Brueggmann tied a single-game team record belting three home runs to drive in four runs in a 6-1 win at Pratt on March 31. 

Mozley batted .396 (82-for-207) with 30 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 67 runs scored and 65 driven in. He also drew 41 base-on-balls and swiped 19 bases. His 30 doubles set a new season record at JCCC, ranked second in the conference and NJCAA. They also rank as the second most in conference history.  Mozley registered 23 multiple-hit games and 19 multiple-RBI games. He ranked second on the team in runs, RBI, batting average and multi-RBI games. He tied for second in multi-hit games and was third in home runs and stolen bases. Mozely joined the Cavaliers' program this season after spending the previous two at Missouri State University.

Iannantone ends his career scattered all over the history books at Johnson County, his name also appears among the top players in the all-time statistical leaders in the conference. A Preseason All-American by JUCO Blog prior to the season's start, Iannatone hit a team best .474 (86-for-208) with 17 doubles, seven home runs, 63 runs, 25 walks and 54 driven in. He registered a team high 29 multiple-hit games and 11 multiple-RBI games. He ranks seventh on JCCC's season chart for batting average, tied for fifth in hits, tied for third in multi-hit games, tied for 16th in runs and tied for 17th in doubles. He also ranked fifth in the conference in average and hits. 

Iannantone closed out his career with a batting average of .442 (189-for-428) with 39 doubles, six triples, 18 home runs, 142 runs scored and 130 drive in. He had 63 extra base hits, and registered 63 multiple-hit games and 32 multiple-RBI games. His 198 hits and 63 multi-hit games are new career team records, and his batting average is the second-best for a career in team history. Iannantone also ranks fourth in at bats (468), third in doubles (39), tied for 11th in home runs (18), sixth in extra base hits, fifth in RBI (130) and fifth in multi-RBI. In the conference all-time record book Iannnatone ranks second in career hits, fourth in runs, 11th in doubles, 16th in batting average and 18th in RBI. 

Chapman made 15 appearances all as a starter. Ge finished 6-3 with 78 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 4.28. His 78 strikeouts tied for most on the staff and tied for seventh in the conference. He had one complete game and one shutout. Chapman closed out his career with a record of 10-5 with 150 strikeouts in 113.2 innings pitched. 

Wentworth batted .333 (30-for-90) with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs, 28 runs scored and 23 driven in. He produced nine multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games.  Wentworth was solid with his glove, recording 257 putouts and eight assists with only one error for a fielding percentage of .996. 

Combs batted .378 (73-for-193) with 11 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 69 runs scored and 59 driven in. He also drew 43 walks and stole 20 bases. Combs produced 21 multiple-hit games and 17 multiple-RBI games. He led the team and tied for sixth in the conference in walks. He also led the team and tied for seventh in the KJCCC in runs scored. Combs ranked second in home runs, tied for second in stolen bases, third in batting average, third in multi-RBI games, fourth in hits and fourth in multi-RBI games. His 43 walks tie for fifth on JCCC's season chart and his 69 runs rank seventh. 

Martin made 20 appearances, seven as a starter. He led the team and tied for second in the conference with nine victories. He finished 9-1 with 71 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 2.83. Martin was third on the staff in strikeouts, ERA and innings pitched. 

Garza made 17 appearances on the hill, nine as a starter. He finished 5-4 with 67 strikeouts in 64.2 innings pitched and an ERA of 4.31. He tied for the team lead with two complete games and one shutout. Garza led the staff in innings pitched and was third in strikeouts.

Hall hit .353 (41-for-116) with seven doubles, a triple, five home runs, 34 runs scored and 34 drive in. He produced 11 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games. He closed out his career with a batting average of .399 (130-for-326) with 30 doubles, six triples, 19 home runs, 128 runs and 111 driven in … Had 55 extra base hits, 39 multiple-hit games and 28 multiple-RBI games …  He also drew 66 free passes … His batting average ranks 19th all-time .. Also ranks third in runs scored, seventh in multi-RBI game, eighth in RBI, 10th in home runs, tied for 10th in multi-hit games and extra base hits and 17th in hits.  Following the 2020 COVID shortened season, Hall was selected first-team All-American by JUCO Baseball Blog.
