OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its weekly national baseball rankings Monday afternoon, and Johnson County came in at No. 6, up from No. 8 last week.
The Cavaliers have appeared in all nine polls this season including seven straight in the Top-10. They have been ranked nationally in 23-of-33 polls during the three seasons under the director of head coach Eric Horner, including 15 times in the Top-10.
The Cavaliers are currently 37-7 overall and lead the Kansas Jayhawk Conference East Division with a mark of 21-3. Cowley also has three losses but is four games back in the win column at 17-3. The Cavaliers take on the Tigers in a four-game series opening on Thursday, April 20 at JCCC. Cowley leads the all-time series, 101-78, and have not lost a season series to the Cavaliers since 1999.
Johnson County is currently coming off a series win over Neosho County, taking three of the four games in the season series. The Cavaliers have won all five of the six-conference series played to date, sweeping four of them. The one series they did not win they split with Allen.
Johnson County leads the conference and ranks fifth nationally in hitting with a team batting average of .358 (475-for-1327). They also rank in the Top 10 nationally in hits (475-9th) and triples (37-9th).
On the hill, JCCC ranks second in the conference and 11th in the NJCAA in ERA at 3.62 and lead the conference and rank fifth nationally in strikeouts with 452 and K/9 at 12.04.
