Cavaliers sweep four-game series with Metropolitan, improve to 11-1

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Metropolitan Community College in a home-and-home series Thursday and Friday, posting victories of 13-3, 19-8, 5-3, and 10-3 to improve to 11-1 on the season.

The Cavaliers opened the series Thursday in Kansas City with an offensive surge, scoring 32 runs across two games. In the opener, JCCC rolled to a 13-3 win as four players drove in multiple runs. Designated hitter Colin Coonradt led the way with four RBI on two hits, including a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run home run in the fifth.

Logan Groh added two RBI with a single and double, Ashton Hartwig drove in two with a single and double, and Jack Jones hit a two-run home run to center field in the second. Briggs Roe homered, Boston Bruce drove in a run, and Ryan Bradford finished with a single, double, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Liam Roche earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one run over four innings while striking out four. Braylon Brooks and Nolan Buss each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

JCCC followed with a 19-8 victory in the second game behind a power display from Coonradt and Roe. Coonradt launched three home runs—in the first, fifth, and seventh innings—and drove in four runs. Roe went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and four RBI.

Isaac Pamaran homered, walked twice, and drove in three, while Bruce and Lukas Wilson each recorded two hits and two RBI. Bradford, Groh, and Evan Damario also drove in runs.

Ronin Vicenti picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits over four and two-thirds innings with six strikeouts. Lance Alexander started and surrendered two runs on one hit over three innings.

On Friday in Overland Park, the Cavaliers completed the sweep. In the opener, JCCC built a five-run lead by the fifth inning and held on for a 5-3 win. Roe hit a two-run homer and added an RBI single, while Bradford and Bruce each drove in a run.

Drake Gawer earned the win with four shutout innings, striking out seven while allowing just one hit. Keston Holman closed out the game with three innings to earn his first save of the season and the 12th of his career.

In the series finale, the Cavaliers collected 14 hits in a 10-3 victory. Bradford and Roe each tallied three hits, while Pamaran, Groh, and Coonradt recorded two apiece.

Roe tripled, singled, and homered to drive in two runs. Bradford added two doubles, scored twice, and drove in a run. Pamaran had a single, double, and RBI, Groh drove in two, and Hartwig contributed a two-run single.

Ashton Nance earned the win, allowing one hit and no runs over three innings. Six relievers followed with one inning apiece to close out the sweep.

JCCC returns to action Friday, February 20, when it hosts a four-game series against Pratt Community College.
