OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 straight games and improved to 15-1 on the season with four-game series sweep over Pratt Community College.
The first three games were tightly contested, with the Cavaliers winning by a combined five runs – 10-7, 12-11 and 3-2, before closing out the series with a 12-0 blowout. Over the four games, Johnson County collected 40 hits, including nine doubles, three triples and 11 home runs.
Ryan Bradford was a one-man wrecking crew against the Beavers. The freshman from Imperial, Missouri hit .667 (9-for-16) with three doubles, five home runs, seven runs scored and nine driven in.
In the opening game of the series, Bradford has a single, double and home run, scored three and drove in three to lead JCCC to a 10-7 win. He followed with a monster performance, ripping two doubles and two home runs, scoring twice and driving in three to help the Cavaliers pull out a 12-11 victory. In the series finale, Bradford belted two more homers and drove in a three in a 12-0 blowout over the Beavers. Through 16 games, he is hitting at a .508 clip (30-for-59) with 11 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 28 runs and 33 RBI. He is slugging 1.220.
Sophomore infielder Briggs Roe batted .538 in the series (7-for-13) with three doubles, a home run, five runs scored and three RBI. Sophomore infielder Logan Groh hit .429 (6-for-14) with three home runs, four runs scored and six RBI. Sophomore Colin Coonradt hit .417 (5-for-12) with a double, home run, four runs and four RBI. Freshman Lukas Wilson ripped two triples and drove in three runs. Sophomore catcher Boston Bruce collected a triple and homer to drive in four and freshman outfielder Isaac Pamaran had two singles and four RBI in the series finale.
On the mound right-hander Ashton Nance delivered an impressive effort in the final game. He earned the victory by allowing just one hit and no runs over five innings while striking out six in the 12-0 win.
In the opener, sophomore right-hander Ronin Vicenti pitched one and one-third inning in relief to earn the win, and freshman right-hander Braylon Brooks closed out the final two innings, striking out four batters to pick up his first save of the season.
In the 3-2 win in the third game of the series, freshman right-hander Nolan Buss hurled a perfect one and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts to close out the game and earn the victory. Freshman left-hander Liam Roche was solid in his start, allowing just two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Brett Pearcy followed with two and third scoreless innings, allowing just two walks while strikeout out two batters.
The Cavaliers return to the diamond on Friday, February 27 when they host Iowa Western Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
