OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College baseball team has opened the season in dominant fashion, winning five consecutive series — including three sweeps — to race out to an 18-2 record through 20 games. The start ties for the third-best opening in program history.
That fast start has also fueled a rapid climb in the NJCAA Division I national poll. The Cavaliers began the preseason ranked No. 12, moved up to No. 4 in the first regular-season poll, and climbed again to No. 2 in the second poll released Monday.
Johnson County ranks among the nation's top offensive teams in multiple categories. The Cavaliers are fourth nationally in extra-base hits (103), sixth in doubles (50) and triples (12), seventh in home runs (41) and total bases (407), eighth in slugging percentage (.675), 12th in RBI (190), and 13th in runs scored (207). As a team, JCCC is batting an impressive .348.
