Cavaliers continue offensive surge, sweep Coffeyville to reach 26-2

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team is off to his best start in program history, boasting a 26-2 record with a dominant offense that has scored 10 or more runs in seven straight games and 22 of 28 to start the season.

The Cavaliers added two more wins Saturday at Coffeyville Community College, taking both games of a doubleheader to complete a four-game sweep of the Red Ravens. Johnson County opened the day with a 12-8 victory and capped the series with a 14-2 win.

Ryan Bradford continued his torrid start to the season. The freshman right fielder went 6-for-10 on the day. In the opener, Bradford recorded two doubles, a solo home run and scored three runs. He followed that performance with a single and two home runs in the nightcap, finishing with two runs scored and three RBI. Bradford also completed a cycle in the series, just the fourth in program history.

Logan Groh and Colin Coonradt both homered and drove in two runs each in the first game, while Ashton Hartwig recorded three RBI and Boston Bruce added two hits and two RBI to lead the Cavalier offense.

Ashton Nance earned the start and the victory in the opener. The freshman right-hander allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings while striking out six.

In the series finale, Briggs Roe belted a three-run home run, Evan Damario finished with two hits and three RBI, and Bruce, Hartwig, Isaac Pamaran and Lukas Wilson each collected two hits as Johnson County produced a 16-hit offensive attack.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Victor Chrital allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out four over four innings to earn the win. Lance Alexander closed out the game with two dominant innings. The freshman right-hander faced the minimum six batters and struck out five.
