OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The power surge that had been building all season for the Johnson County Community College finally turned historic Saturday afternoon.
Behind a record-breaking display at the plate, the No. 1-ranked Cavaliers smashed eight home runs across a doubleheader sweep of Neosho County Community College, extending their winning streak to 18 games while improving to 34-2 on the season.
JCCC opened the day by tying a program record with three home runs in an 8-0 victory, matching the previous single-season mark of 106 set in 2015.
But the Cavaliers weren't finished.
In the second game, they obliterated the record.
Johnson County launched five more home runs in a 20-0 rout, pushing their season total to 111 and establishing a new program standard in emphatic fashion.
The long ball set the tone from the start.
In the opener, Ryan Bradford, Boston Bruce and Briggs Roe each homered as JCCC methodically pulled away. Bradford finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Bruce and Roe both drove in two runs.
On the mound, Ashton Nance was equally dominant, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out six to secure the win.
Game two turned into a full-on offensive barrage.
The Cavaliers erupted for 20 runs on 26 hits, highlighted by five home runs and contributions throughout the lineup. Colin Coonradt, Bruce, Brayden Giesler (two) and Ashton Hartwig all went deep as JCCC broke the record wide open.
Giesler led the charge with a 4-for-5 performance, scoring four runs and driving in five, while Bruce added three hits and four RBI. Coonradt was nearly unstoppable, going 5-for-6 with three runs scored.
The Cavaliers struck early and often, plating seven runs in the first inning and never letting up, scoring in six of the seven frames.
Meanwhile, the pitching staff completed a dominant day, combining for a two-hit shutout in game two after allowing just six hits in the opener. Victory Christal started and earned the victory. The right-hander allowed no runs and no hits over three innings and struck out six batters. Lance Alexander, Brett Pearcy, Braylon Brooks and Cooper Frazier all pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
In all, Johnson County outscored Neosho County 28-0 on the day, showcasing a potent combination of power and pitching that has defined its season.
Now winners of 18 straight, the Cavaliers continue to rewrite the record book while cementing themselves as one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the country.
