OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Johnson County Community College's relentless run through the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) East Division continued last week, and so did the hardware.
Following another series sweep, the top-ranked Cavaliers claimed both KJCCC Baseball East Division Week 12 Player of the Week honors, marking the fifth time this season JCCC has swept the conference's weekly awards. Freshman slugger Ryan Bradford was named Player of the Week, while sophomore right-hander Ashton Nance earned Pitcher of the Week recognition.
Bradford continues to put together one of the most remarkable offensive seasons in program history. The freshman extended his hitting streak to 29 consecutive games—just one shy of the school record—and pushed his RBI streak to 27 straight contests. He was dominant in JCCC's four-game sweep of Kansas City Kansas, batting .625 (10-for-16) with a walk, three home runs, eight runs scored, and eight RBI.
His season totals continue to rank among the nation's best. Bradford now has 29 home runs, tied for the second-most in the country, while his 53 extra-base hits lead the nation. He also ranks fifth nationally with 83 RBI, cementing his status as one of the premier hitters in NJCAA Division I baseball.
On the mound, Nance delivered a complete-game performance to secure his weekly honor. In a 7-1 victory over Kansas City Kansas on Saturday, Nance allowed just one run on three hits while striking out eight. He was in control throughout, limiting scoring opportunities and setting the tone for the Cavaliers' continued dominance.
With the win, Nance improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season.
JCCC's continued success—both individually and collectively—has been a defining theme of the season, as the Cavaliers maintain their position atop the national rankings while building momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play.
