OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The top-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team continued its historic run Thursday afternoon, extending its winning streak to 31 games with an 11-6 victory over Cowley County in the opener of a four-game conference series in Arkansas City.
The Cavaliers (47-2, 25-0) then carried that momentum into game two, building a commanding 16-6 lead before play was suspended in the bottom of the eighth inning due to weather. The game will resume Saturday prior to the series finale doubleheader when JCCC hosts Cowley.
Johnson County wasted little time setting the tone, plating two runs in the first inning and never trailing in a game that featured power and production throughout the lineup.
Brayden Giesler sparked the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, scoring three runs and collecting both a double and triple. Logan Groh delivered a big day in the middle of the order, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Briggs Roe drove in a game-high four runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple.
Ryan Bradford added to the offensive outburst with a home run and two runs scored, and Colin Coonradt and Boston Bruce each chipped in an RBI as part of a 12-hit attack.
JCCC broke the game open with a four-run third inning and added three more in the fourth to build a comfortable cushion.
On the mound, Liam Roche earned the win, working 4.1 innings while allowing six runs on nine hits. Braylon Brooks was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit while striking out three to secure the victory.
The Cavaliers' offense stayed red-hot in game two, erupting for 16 runs before weather halted play in the eighth inning.
JCCC will resume the game Saturday, looking to officially secure another conference win before closing out the series later that day.
