OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 7th ranked Johnson County baseball team swept Baker University JV on Friday afternoon to remain unbeaten at 23-0 on the season.
After an 11-0 win on Thursday over the Wildcats, JCCC had to work a little harder to get a 13-7 victory. The Cavaliers completed the sweep with a 14-0 shutout.
In the first game Friday, lead-off hitter and center fielder Jake Grauberger and catcher Nate Stevens, the star in JCCC's first win over Baker, powered the Cavaliers' offense. Grauberger collected three hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in four. Stevens belted a solo home run and a two-run homer, his fifth and sixth of the season.
Third baseman Noah Cook drove in two runs with a double, and second baseman Ben Kobel had two hits, including a double, and one RBI.
Left-hander Jay Long allowed just one hit and on unearned with two strikeouts over the first three inning to improve his season record to 3-0.
In the series final game, left fielder Will Hudler ripped a single and a double to drive in a season-high three runs.
Second baseman Davis Blair had two hits, including his second home run of the season, to drive in three runs, and catcher Jaxson Wentworth had a single and a double with three RBI.
Right-hander Mikal Ashley dominated the Baker hitters in his five innings pitched. He allowed just one hit while striking out a 10 Wildcats, matching his season-hight.
Left-hander CC Crain hurled two innings of hitless ball with four strikeouts to close out the game.
Johnson County will host State Fair Community College on Tuesday, March 30 at 2 p.m., before returning to conference play against Kansas City Kansas on Thursday, April 1.
