Johnson County takes first two games of series with Southwestern

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 17-ranked Johnson County baseball team ripped 21 hits, including 10 extra base hits, and scored 24 runs to win the first two games of a four-game series against Southwestern. The Cavaliers posted 13-0 shutout to open the series, and followed with an 11-1 victory, improving their season mark to 3-2. 

In the opener, freshman first baseman Colin Bruggemann had a double, home run and drove in three and second baseman Blake Mozley ripped two double and drove three to lead the Cavaliers. 

Leftfielder Cooper Combs and catcher Russell Young each had two hits and two RBI. Young also scored three runs. 

Right-hander Hayden Minton got the start and victory. He allowed just two hits and struck out four in four innings worked. Cameron Loyd pitched the final inning and struck out two batters. 

In the second game Combs again had the big bat, going 3-for-4 with two triples and solo home run.

Mozley had a two-RBI single and preseason Baseball Blog All-American Nick Iannantone had two hits, a sacrifice fly and two RBI.

On the bump left-hander Max Chapman picked up his first win of the season. He allowed one hit, no runs, four walks and two strikeouts over 3.1 innings. 

Right-hander Grant Garza followed with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts. Left-hander Landon Richards and right-hander Garrett Stoll each hurled one inning of relief.
