Kyla Etter (KEYE-la EAT-er) joined the Lady Cavaliers softball program last spring after transferring from Emporia State University … Expected to serve in a pitcher/utility role in again 2021 … She is a tough, laser-focused team player that gives everything she has to make her team successful … Great kid and has a competitive attitude.

Freshman Year 2021

Ace of the JCCC pitching staff in 2021 … Earned All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference D-II and All-Region VI/District first-team … Made 22 appearances in the circle with 18 starts … Finished 13-6 with 13 complete games, four shutouts with 111 strikeouts in 110.1 innings pitched … Led the team and KJCCC D-II with an earned run average of 2.41 … Held hitters to a .219 average … Was named the conference pitcher of the week three times, earning the honor in week two, 11 and 12 … The week of her first award she had one-hit shutout with five strikeouts against Marshalltown (2-26-21), and followed with 10 strikeouts in six innings in a 10-2 win over Kirkwood (2-27-21) … In week 11 she allowed four runs, two earned, with seven strikeouts in a 17-7 win at Hesston (4-29-21) … She capped the week five strikeouts in  a complete game 4-1 win over No. 12-ranked Labette (5-1-21) … She got her third honor with two wins, one a starter and one in relief … Allowed just three hits over seven innings without a run, and struck out seven in a 6-0 win at Kansas City Kansas in the first game (5-7-21) … Pitched the final 3.2 innings in a 17-9 win in the second game, allowing just one run off three hits to earn the victory … Allowed just two runs off five hits and struck out 11 batter in a 5-2 win at Highland (4-1-21) … Recorded 11 strikeouts again in a 5-2 loss to Kansas City Kansas (4-9-21) … Earned NJCAA All-Academic third-team with a grade point average between 3.60 and 3.79.

Made three appearance in the circle, one as a starter … Finished 1-0 with an earned run average of 0.00 and 13 strikeouts in 9.0 innings pitched … Her 0.00 earned run average led the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and tied for first in the NJCAA … Ranked third in the conference and 12^th in the NJCAA with a 10.11 strikeout-per-seven inning ratio … Did not allow a hit or run in 1.0 inning of relief in a 4-1 loss to Jefferson (3-6-20) … Earned a complete game 3-1 victory over North Iowa Area (3-7-20) … Allowed one run off five hits, walked four and struck out 12 batters over 7.0 innings of work …Was selected the Week 5 Kansas Jayhawk D-II Pitcher of the Week following those performances against Jefferson and North Iowa Area ...  Pitched 1.0 inning of scoreless and hitless relief with one strikeout in an 8-0 win over Allen (3-10-20) ... Earned NJCAA All-Academic third-team with a grade point average between 3.60-3.79.

Was a four-year starter for coach Bill Finucane at Eudora High School, Eudora, Kan. … Graduated 2019 … Was a three-time Kansas 4A All-State selection … Earned honorable mention as a sophomore, first-team as a junior and second-team her senior year … Was a four-time All-Frontier League, earing second-team as a freshman and first-team her sophomore, junior and senior seasons … Was listed on the Lawrence Journal-World All-Area team all four seasons, three as a first-team selection … Helped the Cardinals to a 17-5 record, and a Regional Championship her junior year in 2018 … As a senior led Eudora to 15-6 mark, a Frontier League championship, another Regional title and a 4A State Tournament berth, the programs first since 2016 … As a senior finished 7-1 with 50 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched and an earned run average of .148 in the circle, hit .417 with three doubles, a home run and 13 driven in … Finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in strikeouts with 320 … Also ranks second all-time in career victories with 36, career innings pitched with 288 and in career ERA at 1.64 … Owns the second, third and fourth best season marks for strikeouts … Had 85 in 2016, 92 in 2017 and 93 in 2018 … Also owns the third and fifth best season ERA totals with 1.37 in 2018 and 1.48 in 2019 … Set season records for home with six and slugging percentage at .982 as a junior, and finished her career with the third best slugging percentage all-time at .678 … Honor roll student four years.
