OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore All-America guard Layla Scott drained lit up the court in Johnson County's home opener, knocking down seven 3-pointers on her way to 27 points, powering the No. 1 Cavaliers to a 103-59 victor over Bethany JV. Her seven threes and 27 points match the second-best single-game marks of her career. She finished 10-for--20 from the field, including 7-of-13 from deep.
Sophomore guard Kara Stricklin provided an efficient 15-point performance, hitting 4-of-6 from the floor, all three of her 3-point attempts, and was a perfect 4 for-4 at the free line. She also handed out a team-high six assists.
Freshman guard Jade Warren, the reigning KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, added 13 points off the bench, while freshman forward Mia Adams contributed eight points and four boards.
Johnson County bench was productive across the board. Freshman guard Hayden Snodgrass finished with nine points; freshman forward Makenna Jennings added seven points; freshman guard Skyte Wilson posted seven points and seven rebounds; and freshman forward Layla Barnes chipped in five points and six boards.
With the win, Johnson County pushed its winning streak to 26 straight, and head coach Ben Conrad remained unbeaten at 18-0. Their 103 points tie the second-highest total ever scored in a home-opening victory.
Johnson County (3-0) stays at home this weekend to host the JCCC Classic November 7-8, facing Iowa Lakes Community College on Friday night, and Southwestern Community College on Saturday.
