OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's basketball team completed its third consecutive undefeated regular season — and fifth overall — with an 81-71 win at Allen Community College on Wednesday, February 25.
The NJCAA Division II's top-ranked team heads into the postseason with a perfect 30-0 record. The victory marked the Cavaliers' 22nd consecutive double-digit win and their 28th of the season. JCCC also extended its regular-season winning streak to 92 straight games.
The Cavaliers led by seven after the first quarter and stretched their advantage to 10 by halftime. They maintained control throughout the second half to secure the unbeaten campaign.
Sophomore guards Layla Scott and Kara Stricklin powered Johnson County to the victory, each pouring in 22 points. Scott shot 6-of-13 from the field with two 3-pointers and went 8-of-14 at the free-throw line. She also added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Stricklin recorded the second double-double of her career, pairing her 22 points with 11 rebounds. She was efficient from the floor, connecting on 8-of-13 shots, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. She also contributed four assists and a steal.
Freshman Jade Warren also reached double figures scoring with 10 points, highlighted by a perfect 8-for-8 performance at the line.
Additional contributions came from Anonda Ford, who totaled seven points and five rebounds; Makenna Jennings, who added three points and seven boards; Mia Adams, who had five points and three boards; and Karlee Ellick, who chipped in five points and four rebounds off the bench.
Allen was led by Yolaine Luthi, who posted a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Johnson County now turns its attention to postseason play, carrying both momentum and history into the bracket. With a flawless regular season complete and a 92-game regular-season winning streak intact, the Cavaliers will look to extend their dominance when they open postseason action next weekend against an opponent to be determined.
