OVERLNAD PARK, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced the 2020-21 men's soccer all-conference performers today, and Johnson County Community College had five players selected for the East Division teams. Earning first-team honors were sophomore defender Kyle Reese, freshman midfielder Brett Harding and freshman goalkeeper Brandon McGaugh. Reese was also selected as the East Division Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the third player in program history to earn the honor.
Second-team honors were presented to sophomore midfielder Aturo Rodriguez and freshman defender Gene Powell.
A second-team all-conference selection last year, Reese proved to be a shutdown defender again this season. Reese is described as a technical center back who reads the game well, has great positioning and is good on the ball. He was part of JCCC's defensive pool that allowed 41 goals, a goals against average of 3.40 with one shutout. Reese also helped out offensively with an assist on JCCC's third goal in a 4-3 loss to Kansas City Kansas (4-14-21).
Harding played in and started all 12 games. He tied for the team lead with two goals, and had one assist for five total points. Harding fired 12 shots, 10 on goal, for a shots-on-goal percentage of .833. He scored JCCC's third goal and assisted on the second in a 4-3 loss to Kansas City Kansas (4-14-21), and netted the fourth goal in a 6-0 win over Garden City (5-5-21).
McGaugh played in and started 11 games. He posted a 2-9-0 record with on full shutout, and logged 882-minutes, 20-seconds in net. He allowed 30 goals for a goals against average of 3.06, and registered 69 saves and a save percentage of .697. McGaugh ranked second in the conference in saves, fourth in minutes played and ninth in save percentage … Made a season high 13 saves in a season opening loss to Coffeyville (4-5-21). He earned his first victory with two saves in a 2-1 overtime win against Crowder (4-26-21), and registered a shutout victory with six saves in a 6-0 win over Garden City (5-1-21).
Rodriguez played in 12 games, 10 as a starter. He tied for the team lead in goals scored with two, assists with two and points with six. He fired six shots with two on goal for a shots-on-goal percentage of .333. Rodriguez netted his first goal in the 94th minute to power JCCC to a 2-1 overtime victory against Crowder (4-26-21). He scored JCCC's second goal and assisted on the third and fifth scores in a 6-0 win over Garden City (5-1-21).
Powell played in and started 11 games. He scored the Cavaliers first goal of 2020-21 in the 48th minute to pull JCCC within a score against Coffeyville (4-5-21). He fired seven shots, six on goal for a shots-on-goal percentage of .857. Powell was part of JCCC's defensive pool that allowed 41 goals, a goals against average of 3.40 with one shutout.
